The colours of hydrogen
There are different types of hydrogen based on how it is produced.
Green hydrogen
- Production process: electrolysis or biomass reformed
- Energy source: renewable energy
- Emissions: zero CO2 emissions on electrolysis or net zero emissions when produced from biomass
Grey hydrogen
- Production process: produced with steam reforming technology
- Raw material: natural gas (fossil fuels)
- Emissions: CO2 emissions
Pink hydrogen
- Production process: electrolysis
- Energy source: nuclear energy (not from fossil fuels)
- Emissions: zero CO2 emissions
Blue hydrogen
- Production process: gasification
- Raw material: natural gas (fossil fuel)
- Emissions:CO2 emissions are captured and eliminated in the process
